WIP Roundup 6/5/21

Last weekend I finished the first of the  Wookie Socks I started at the beginning of April. The pattern is written for a surprising small foot, and I was terrified I didn't make a big enough adjustment to make them large enough for the intended recipient. I used 2.75 mm for the ribbing, and 3 mm for the body of the sock instead of 2.25 and 2.75.  They call for an afterthought heel, which is not my favorite thing, and I was anxious I would knit an entire sock before I found out it didn't fit. Instead, I worked about an inch past the heel stitches that were put on hold, went back and knit the heel and had the BF try them on before I continued the foot. Almost astonishingly he could get it on, so I finished the sock and I think it ended up pretty perfectly. I'm way more excited about working on the second sock knowing it will result in a well fitting pair of socks.

Hermione's Everyday Socks has almost 34,000 projects on Ravelry, so obviously it is well loved. I had briefly started a pair about a decade ago, but I was on vacation with limited supplies, and my progress was quickly frogged. They went back into the queue, and since I found out the 2nd Quarter CAL for the ESK Yarnathon was socks, I've had a pair planned, using a skein of Spun Right Round Classic Sock that has been taunting me from my stash with it's gorgeous colors since last August.

After finishing the socks of Green Gables, I finally got started.  In theory,  I love them. The pattern is well written,  the four row repeat is so easy to remember and read that I'm not even marking my progress on the pattern like I usually do.  I guess a lot of people appreciate the simplicity,  and it does make good TV knitting,  but I find myself bored while working on them. If I thought I had enough time to start another project and still meet my CAL goals, these would probably be sent to time out.  However,  I need these and the Wookiees (and probably a pair of shorties) to meet my goal by the end of the month,  so I'm going to power through and hopefully be showing off the finished pair soon.

Socks have long been my favorite,  but I think all the self-induced pressure to meet deadlines with them this quarter has stressed me out enough that I've started focusing on what comes next.  I took advantage of some Memorial Day sales and have been enjoying receiving some gorgeous squishy mail this week.

Taking advantage of some insomnia last night,  I swatched for one of my upcoming planned garment projects.  I'll share details once I cast on,  but I'm looking forward to a few bigger projects and some time with larger needles in the upcoming months.

Until next time,
