Cast off: 5/9/21

After discovering how much I love worsted weight shawls and watching a ton of people in Casapinka's facebook group knitting this, when I needed a break from socks, it was an easy choice. 


I made the biggest "design element" of my knitting career on this project. Half way through the cables, I picked this up one day, and pretty much forgot the difference between right and left. I swapped the direction of allllll of the cables, and didn't notice for a few rows. I decided to go with it and am surprisingly happy with the way they turned out. I did switch back to the correct direction for the last cable row to make the transition to the ribbing a little neater, but it was a nice feeling to embrace my mistake and turn it into a feature that makes my wrap unique. 


This has taken me so long to post because blocking and taking pictures kept not happening. It's so big and strangely shaped,  that I washed it and laid it on the mats with only a few pins. I really had no idea what shape I should block it into,  so I decided to let it do its own thing and I'll still be able to wrap up in the giant,  warm squishiness.

 I think my biggest knitting accomplishment of the last few months was actually finishing Birdwatcher. After the hem, it was endless stockinette and I couldn't focus at all. Fortunately, i took it with me on a trip that involved quite  a bit of time in a car. It was perfect car knitting! I got so much done on that trip, that I was able to finish it up pretty quickly. It is now one of my favorite articles of clothing to wear and I can't believe I let myself take so long to make it! FO Alert: Lady Cordelia

Ross madelinetosh Tosh Sock in Rocinante (304 yds) Cast on: 5/2/21 Cast off: 5/16/21 As I watched these come together, I kept thinking they might be the prettiest socks I've ever made. I wasn't sure about the smocked cuff until I was done with it, and then I was totally smitten. The cables made this feel like a very slow project, but the end result was definitely worth it. I made them a little short in the leg, substituted a short row heel, and I probably should have knit a few more rounds before the toe, but overall they fit pretty well. I was also amazed how much yarn the cables took. I knit longer legs on the first two pairs from Socks of Green Gables , but these took 25-30 more yards than either of those.  Xo uhlissa

FO: Wookiee Socks

Wookiee Socks  by Natalie Sheldon Cast on: 4/5/21 Cast off: 6/20/21 Yarn: Madelinetosh Tosh Sock in Horror Hostess (277 yds) Dream in Color Smooshy in Charli au lait (162 yds)  These might be my favorite socks ever. They were challenging, but fun and addictive to knit. As they were a gift for my SO, who has giant flipper feet, I had to use larger needles than called for, and luckily they turned out pretty perfectly. They need a good blocking, and I need to practice more colorwork, but I am thrilled with the end result. xo uhlissa
