Weekly WIP Roundup 4/3
It's been a few weeks since my last WIP update and I'm posting a few days later than planned, but my non-knitting life continues to be incredibly busy and I've missed my knitting time. I keep daydreaming about my WIPs waiting for me at home and casting on new projects.
The ESK Yarnathon 1st Quarter Mosaic KAL wrapped up on Wednesday, and the last few weeks I was feeling a little stressed about the projects I needed to get done. Of course, "need" might be a little dramatic, but I had grand plans for the quarter that eventually degraded into reasonable plans as March snuck up on me, and I was determined to finish my three projects.
I did manage to finish all three: Geometrica, Pucker and Impossibly Possible. I even finished and submitted my projects a few days before the deadline!
Those extra days turned this into a cast-on week! The second quarter KAL is socks, and the amazing Lisa Ross is hosting a sock KAL that started the 1st as well. I didn't want to cast on any of my planned socks early, so I caved and cast on Casapinka's Powder Wrap, which I have watched so many people in the Facebook group knitting the last couple of months. After thoroughly enjoying my last worsted weight shawl (Hoarfrost), I couldn't resist the temptation any more.
There is significantly more knit now, since this picture was taken last weekend, but I haven't had an opportunity to take another picture that does either the pattern or the yarn justice. Speaking of yarn, this Berrocco Ultra Alpaca is super dreamy. It's so soft, is a gorgeous color and has just enough stitch definition for this pattern. I'm really looking forward to seeing how this project turns out.
For the quarter filled with socks, I had already made so many plans that I probably couldn't actually achieve, and then this KAL popped up and I couldn't resist. Socks of Green Gables is a collection of socks designed by Lisa K. Ross, who is one of my favorite designers. I had only knit a couple of her shawls, until I knit Impossibly Possible last month.
Kindred Spirits is the first of four patterns that are going to interrupt my original plan, but I'm not upset at all. I wasn't sure I was enamored with the pattern until I really got into it. I think my color combination might be a little more subtle than some of the test knits, and that has made a big difference in my perception of the pattern. The stich pattern for the main portion of the sock is a little more complex than I had imagined, but it's a good challenge and engaging. I had a hard time putting this project down last night at bed time.
I managed to get much further than I anticipated this weekend, so I'll see you soon for an FO post.
