WIP Roundup 6/26 and Soooo Many Plans

I want to make all the things right now!

It's been a few weeks since I have shared much but finished projects, but I haven't been terribly focused in my knitting lately, so there's still plenty to catch up on.

I needed one more little project to reach my goal for the Yarnathon second quarter sock craft a long, so I started browsing ravelry for patterns for short socks. I had never had much interest in making shorties until I saw some absolutely gorgeous creations in the forums. It wasn't quite what I had in mind, but I found the Colour Twist pattern and decided to use some leftovers from other q2 projects and play around a little and see what I could come up with.  I've been playing with stripes to sort of mimic a fade, and the texture of the stitches has created a pretty interesting effect. These should be done this weekend, and I'll move onto some non-sock projects.

A few weeks ago I cast on Birdwatcher one night when I couldn't sleep.  I knit a few rows here and there and finally finished the bottom lace portion last week. After the lace, I need roughly 10" of stockinette.  Definitely not the most interesting thing to work on,  but perfect for knitting in bed, watching TV.

Once I started, I became infatuated with the idea of light weight,  summery tops. I've realized that when I like a project, I get a little obsessed with creating similar things. Last summer I knit a top in Cloudborn Pima Cotton DK, and now have enough similar yarn to make an entire summer wardrobe. Just starting Birdwatcher, I'm now obsessed with planning so many fingering weight tops. Last weekend I was feeling a little sock burnout, so shifted my focus for a few hours to swatching for a few of these new plans.

A lot of not full-size swatches, because I am very impatient.

The first is actually worsted, because after months of sock knitting,  the idea of larger needles is very tempting,  and I've had Icarus in my queue since it was publish in 2014. The other two are for Pacific City and Leaves Shell by Kay Hopkins.  Just as I started to contemplate the immense number of options of summer tops, I discovered she was hosting a KAL. I participated in a shawl KAL of hers last year, and absolutely loved it.  I know I won't likely be able to make either top in the KAL  timeframe, but this made it easy to select projects,  rather to continue to sift through all the gazillions of patterns out there.

I'm not sure what I'll actually start knitting next. I might cast on one, or probably all three, in the next week and see what happens.  Or I could focus on some existing WIPs (there are more than a few floating around my house), or I could suddenly be inspired to do something completely different.

Until next time, make big plans and knit all the things.
